Lilleth was 'humanely destroyed'

Lilleth, a beautiful lynx which escaped from Borth Wild Animal Kingdom has been killed to protect the public. This is not the first animal this has happened to as well, Harambe the Gorilla was also killed after a 3 year old boy climbed into his enclosure. The point is, should these beautiful animals which we have imprisoned be killed because of human error? After all it is not the fault of the animal right?

Well many people in high places make these decisions as in their mind it is their duty to keep the public safe and it the animal is their responsibility so if anything does happen the blame will be down to the company and individuals who own the zoo. So understandably public safety is their priority. But on the other hand should these animals be kept behind bars in the first place? They are wild creatures which are meant to live freely in the wild, so why should they be the ones to suffer when something goes wrong?

There are two solutions to this problem, the first being don't keep these beautiful animals in cages in just for the viewing pleasure of humans, then these incidents would never happen in the first place. The second which is more likely to happen is instead of shooting the animals dead, use tranquilisers and other much safer means to secure the animals, then make their enclosures much stronger and secure so the animals cannot escape easily and humans cannot enter at their own leisure.
