Films are usually considered as a visual form of entertainment, but what about films which are based on true events or depict ethnic minorities? Should we be classing these as entertainment? Should we even make films about these, in some cases horrific, subjects?

On the one side as long as the film does not exploit or humiliate or scrutinise the topic then surely there is nothing wrong with this. However there is also the point that others enjoy watching this content for the wrong reasons, the intended effect the film makers wanted the film to have on an audience does not happen and we end up viewing it as just another movie to watch. Also some of these movies like Hotel Rwanda can provide a small amount of education for its audience, it can teach us about historical content we may never hear about otherwise.

A solution to this would be to ensure film makers depict the topic in a sensitive manner and one which does the subject justice. This can be achieved by researching in depth into the subject and ensuring the aesthetics of the film do not put an entertaining spin on the story and are only used to portray the events how they rightfully should be.
