Gender Discrimination in Film

Within many industries and work places gender discrimination is still a massive and obvious problem in our world today. In film especially it is not often you see a woman taking the lead or dominant role but they are  mainly cast to exploit their looks and provide men with something interesting to watch. It is evident the film industry is still considered an "old boys club" with majority of major studio heads and directors consisting of white males. Because of this they are the ones making the decision and tend to favour other males taking the job roles.

Some would argue that not all stories want or need a female role model as the main character, also many films are based on other stories so this is out of the control of the directors and producers right? And there are still films which feature a dominant female character like Wonder Woman.
But these films are few and far between and its not been until recently these tough female warriors have started appearing in films, and even when they have there is still reference to them being a sexual object with tight, short costumes which revel more than they necessarily need to.

This issue has always been one which has plagued the industry and will no doubt continue on for many years to come but there is evidence that gender equality is seeping into our films and will continue to do so as more people cause an uproar about it. But the real solution is it is down to the producers and directors to make these ethically right decisions for there to be a change in the industry.
