Unnecessary Packaging

There are many sustainable issues in the world today but one which sticks out for many is the use of so much unnecessary packaging on the products we buy. Take the banana's in the image below for example, most fruits are already wrapped in a protective layer of skin so why do we feel the need to wrap them even further? The majority of this packaging is just wasted and damaging to the environment; a lot of the plastic ends up rotting in landfill sites for years to come or even worse the rubbish left behind floods our oceans and causes havoc with the animals living on this earth.

On the other hand some of this packaging is necessary to keep our foods and us safe from harmful bacteria so what should we do about this problem? As well as this the packaging used is strong and durable so it won't break and thus destroy the contents inside.

For a start companies should make an effort at only using the bare minimum for their packaging on products, whilst ensuring the product is kept safe and protected from damage or bugs etc. As well as this it is vital companies make an effort at using packaging which is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. For example some stores sell their items in paper bags rather than plastic carrier bags.
