Magazines and models are almost everywhere we look, every time we walk into a shop we are undoubtedly going to pass a shelf of fashion magazines depict stick thin models. But how often do we see a model of average or even plus size? This particular debate is one which has continued for years but what are we doing about it?
Most people would agree these images are not a good reflection of the majority of people in the world and there is evidence most young people suffering from illnesses like anorexia put the blame on the images they see in these magazines. There are claims they make them feel ashamed of their bodies and they should aim to look as thin as the models but surely this is not what the creators and designers want their readers to think? So why do we have thin models?
Others are in support of this, they believe the girls in the images work hard to look the way they do and essentially it is there job to look 'beautiful'. Also they feel the majority of the images are edited in Photoshop so people would be silly to believe them in the first place.
One thing the majority of us fail to understand is why are there no girls which better reflect the population in these magazines? This would be one major solution to this issue, simply photograph men and women of all shapes and sizes so then readers won't feel this pressure. They won't believe there is a specific way to look if magazines don't follow the same formula.
